About the Schumacher College: 

Schumacher College is a progressive university for ecological studies offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, research degrees, short courses and a practical agroecology residency.

The college has a rich history as a trailblazer in ecological learning, having celebrated its 30th anniversary. The Schumacher College focuses on interactive and experiential education to develop the practical skills and strategic thinking necessary to address 21st century challenges. Students work together in small groups, embracing the learning principles of head, hand, and heart. Many courses feature guest teachers who are world-renowned thinkers, activists, and practitioners from around the world, including James Lovelock, Vandana Shiva, Jonathan Porritt, Charlene Spretnak, George Monbiot, Helena Norberg Hodge, and many more.

A unique feature of the college is its emphasis on community and sustainable living. The food served at the college is vegetarian and grown for 50% on-site, with the remaining sourced as locally as possible. All students and staff are involved in cooking, cleaning, and gardening, which helps foster a sense of community and provides a great opportunity to interact with all members of the college.

Programme: 

Meet with all key staff from the Schumacher college and engage in experiencing and discussing the curriculum and the transformative pedagogy with Troy Vine, Robin de Carteret, Rob Hopkins and more inspiring teachers and actors (list to be completed/confirm). Network with fellow participants engaged in learning design or innovative pedagogies.

About the Schumacher Sprouts Belgium

The Schumacher Sprouts Belgium is a collective of alumni from the Schumacher College. We are all actively engaged in experimenting pathways for social and economic transition, eco-pedagogy and transformative learning, community building and sustainable lifestyles. 

We have created a space for individuals to experience deep ecology through our educational programme, which offers transformative courses for ecological, social, and personal change. The connection with the living world is at the heart of our pedagogy and we believe that the skills and competencies acquired through our program are essential for creating positive and generative futures.

Dates: 

  • Arrival: Monday 20th May midday, welcome and afternoon session starting at 3 pm

  • Departure: Friday 24th May, from 2 pm

Fee: 

  • 1395€ VAT incl. (individuals, academic or non profit)

  • 1595€ VAT incl (corporate)

    Residential course fees include all vegetarian meals, materials and all teaching sessions and includes accommodation (single room) with shared bathrooms from lunch on the day of your arrival through until lunchtime before your departure. 

    Please note that the price does NOT include travel costs or travel insurance (depending on time of booking, please count 150€-300€ return train tickets)

Location:

The Schumacher College is located on the Dartington campus, situated within the 1,200 acre estate of the Dartington Trust, next to Totnes, the first "transition town". The surrounding area also includes the beautiful Dartmoor National Park and the stunning Jurassic Coast of South Devon.
